MOTHERS’ UNION CAMPAIGN AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE 2016
Once again, Stapleford Mothers’ Union is supporting the national MU campaign Against Gender-Based Violence by having collection boxes for toiletries for the Cambridge Women’s Refuge in the church porch, between 25 November and 1 December.
The campaign is part of a United Nations initiative to raise awareness of the level of violence against women and girls globally; the facts are startling. At least one in three women around the world will experience some gender-based violence at some point, states the World Health Organisation; across the world more women between 15 and 44 will be maimed or die from such violence than from cancer, malaria, traffic accidents or war combined. 60 million girls are sexually assaulted on their way to or at school – and in England & Wales seven women a month are killed by a current or former partner.
So please will you once again support Stapleford MU’s collection generously – last year we filled three very large cartons with toiletries for the Women’s Refuge. Items that would be suitable are: toothpaste, toothbrushes, face cloths, combs, soap, shampoo, shower gel and diaries.
Thank you very much for your support.
